Ranger Girl is a self-proclaimed African who is a self-sponsored travel activist and ambassador of Botswana culture. She is also a proud Motswana who is a business lady and accountant by profession, focusing on the importance of her travel experiences and highlights, including road trips and descriptions of festivals and events in Africa, especially wilderness safari travels showcasing off-road and overlanding in Botswana. Her main aim is to travel with other women to the deepest rural areas in Botswana and donate the little they have, reminding people living in these remote areas that they are not forgotten while facing some of the deepest 4×4 terrain challenges experienced in the country. Ranger Girls aim to empower women through cultural tourism, mainly in Botswana and Africa as a whole. Botswana, like many countries, has a patriarchal history in which women have not been economically and socially empowered. As a Ranger Girl, she believes tourism has to facilitate female empowerment and join the male-dominated sector. Their aim is to educate and increase awareness about Botswana. Ranger means a forest keeper, and they believe that as Ranger girls, they can grow and protect all nature and wilderness in our country.
CHATTING WITH AFRICA’S TRAVEL ENTHUSIAST
WHICH DESTINATIONS DID YOU VISIT IN THE PAST (PLACE OR COUNTRY)?
I would say I have travelled all corners of Botswana if I were to cut the story short, but just to mention a few, we have visited places like Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, Jaofalts, Etsha, Lenyanti, Mababe, Khwaii Mbudu, Sankoyo, Savuti, Kasane Chobe, CKGR, Kalahari Trans Fontier Park both in South Africa and Botswana, Tulip Block, and Tuliblock. I have also done places in South Africa such as Kruger National Park, the Paranoma Route in Hoedspruut, and the Eastern Cape Wild Camping Route. Countries such as Namibia by the coast, the Namib Desert, and many more are yet to be explored.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT PARTICULAR DESTINATION?
Some of the destinations were chosen due to their remoteness. We wanted to identify places that would challenge us in reaching them so that we could donate and give hope to people leaving there, while some other areas were for exploring and learning more about the culture and vegetation in the area.
WHAT WAS THE MOST INTERESTING ACTIVITY DURING YOUR TRIP?
The most interesting activity during our trips is overlanding. Driving for so many kilometres in the deep sand, mud, and bumpy roads is not an easy job, especially when it’s extremely hot and during the rainy season.
WHICH LOCAL PLACE ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO VISITING IN BOTSWANA OR OTHER PARTS OF AFRICA?
In Botswana, we would love to visit Gudigwa and Seronga village in the Okavango Delta area. Our next trip will be to the Etosha National Park, Skeleton Coast National Park, etc. in northern Namibia.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO AN ORDINARY AFRICAN REGARDING EXPLORING AFRICA AND THE REST OF THE WORLD?
If the passion is there, go for it; life is too short. We don’t know what the other side of the world holds for us. Make the best memories of the life you spent on earth.
