AFRICA BUSINESS TOURISM & MICE MASTERCLASS SET TO ADVANCE REGIONAL INTEGRATION

Phillip Modise 09/03/2026 2 min read

Africa’s business events sector is preparing for a major industry gathering as the 9th Africa Business Tourism & MICE Masterclass is scheduled to take place from 9–10 April 2026 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The high-level forum comes at a pivotal moment for the continent’s tourism industry, as destinations seek to strengthen regional integration and position themselves competitively in the global meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) market.

Organised as a specialised training and knowledge-sharing platform, the masterclass will bring together destination marketing organisations, professional conference organisers and tourism professionals from across Africa. The programme will focus on strengthening bidding strategies for international association meetings, enhancing the management of large-scale business events, and improving operational standards within convention centres and supporting tourism infrastructure.

Industry experts note that the growth of intra-African travel and demand for world-class events is creating new opportunities for the business tourism sector. The masterclass will therefore emphasise a shift from traditional event logistics toward strategic event management, where destinations focus on measurable economic impact, return on investment, and long-term sector development.

Participants will also explore emerging trends in incentive travel, where companies increasingly seek experiential programmes that combine corporate objectives with authentic cultural experiences. The discussions are expected to equip delegates with practical tools to design competitive incentive programmes and strengthen Africa’s attractiveness as a destination for high-value business events.

Beyond training, the forum will serve as a platform for policy dialogue and cross-border collaboration among tourism stakeholders. By bringing together decision-makers and industry practitioners, organisers believe the masterclass will help shape strategies that position African destinations as key players in the global business tourism ecosystem.

Registration for the masterclass is currently open to a limited number of delegates from the tourism, hospitality, aviation and academic sectors. Organisers encourage interested stakeholders to secure participation early as the programme aims to maintain a focused, high-level business-to-business engagement environment.
