
The Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) Management and SEZA Botswana met to discuss progress on the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport Special Economic Zone (SSKIA SEZ) project in Gaborone, on 20th September 2024. This discussion comes in anticipation of a groundbreaking ceremony set for 03rd October 2024 to be officiated by His Excellency, President of Botswana Dr Mokgweetsi E Masisi.
Speaking at the stakeholder engagement meeting, the SSKIA-SEZ project managers gave updates on progress made on the project, which indicates that the Project will be completed on time. SEZA also gave an update on the uptake by major investors and their quest to attract more.
The success of The Airport City will be key in moving Botswana from a resource-based economy to a diverse-based.
The SSKIA SEZ project is in its second phase, with Phase 1 completed in 2021 with the construction of key roads, and the installation of sewage, bulk water, power, and internet cabling. Phase 2 began in August 2023 and is set to be completed July 2025.
The Airport City is set to create 2000 jobs for citizens. CAAB Chief Executive Officer, Dr Bao Mosinyi and his executive leadership team also had the opportunity to tour the entire site.
