From Our Humble Beginnings to Global Travel
As like-minded creatives who grew up in Botswana’s Ghanzi District just a stone’s throw from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Phillip Modise and Oshalle Monyatse recognised a gap in traditional media. There wasn’t a platform for stories representing their country’s narratives, cultures, or tourism potential from a truly local perspective — rural voices often went unheard.
The two envisioned a publication of Botswana origin, one highlighting the opportunities, aspirations, lived experiences, and pride of its people. Modise and Monyatse founded WeniGlam Travel in 2014, later expanding the concept to include other regions of Africa to better celebrate the diversity of the continent and promote its discovery through responsible travel.
Why WeniGlam?
Weni is a word from the Sekgalagadi language as spoken by the Bakgalagadi tribe in Botswana. It’s a warm, personal expression meaning “you” — often used to gently call someone’s attention or acknowledge their presence with affection and familiarity.
Glam is a nod to the bold self-expression rooted in African cultural pride. Put together, WeniGlam becomes a celebration of you, the African — one that speaks to your culture, your story, your shine
